About

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Driving Academy, formerly the Toyota Driving Academy, runs a full-day advanced 4x4 driving and recovery course at Zwartkops Raceway and De Wildt in Gauteng. It suits anyone heading on a long trip, or anyone who just wants to stop damaging their bakkie on the local 4x4 trail.

The day starts with a lecture on the do's and don'ts of off-road driving: vehicle dynamics, low range, diff locks, tyre pressures and suspension. Then you drive real terrain, including steep climbs and descents, ditch crossings, side slopes and rock crawling. An optional recovery session covers winching, recovery straps and self-recovery.

You drive the academy's own Toyota 4x4s on the day, at no extra cost, so your own bakkie stays out of harm's way. What you learn carries over to any 4x4. The course costs R4,250 per person, VAT included, with breakfast, lunch, a certificate and a cap. Courses need at least 8 drivers on the day.
